The brilliant Bulls entertain Long Eaton in the final of the Midlands Senior Vase this Saturday, 12.30pm. The showpiece clash at Somersham Road features two table-topping teams with St Ives roaring towards the Midlands Division Three East (South) crown and Long Eaton sitting pretty in the North section. St Ives head coach Phil Brown said: Everyone is naturally looking forward to Saturday with great anticipation. Whilst winning promotion has always been our aim for this season, the cup run has been a source of huge excitement. We know Long Eaton have been having an excellent season like ourselves. We have conquered teams from their division in earlier rounds, but we know we will have our work cut out to contain them and impose our game on them. Weve seen ever increasing numbers supporting us this season and we expect many more to be present for the final. Our 2nds have brought forward their cup game to Friday night so that they are free to attend and Long Eaton tell us they will be bringing a couple of coachloads of supporters as well. St Ives have not won a senior trophy since completing a hat-trick of Hunts & Peterborough Cup crowns back in 2012. They won promotion from Midlands Division Four East (South) the following season, but that was as runners-up. Admission for the Midlands Senior Vase final is free, but donations to the Doddie Weir Foundation will be gratefully accepted. The winners this Saturday will then go on to face Northern area champions Wath Upon Dearne on March 31 with the victors in that clash progressing to the national final at Twickenham.
