Damien Whales side were thumped 64-24 by a high-class Kettering outfit in an A14 derby date at The Racecourse. There was no repeat of a memorable one-point victory against the Northamptonshire side in the corresponding fixture last season, although thats hardly a surprise given the fact that Stags have lost seven senior players, who lined up for them on that occasion, while Kettering have boosted their ranks by drafting in a couple of men with Premiership experience. Kettering signalled their intent with a couple of tries in the opening few minutes and the scoreboard continued to tick over on a regular basis. Wayne Bradley marked his return following surgery with one of three Stags tries. Alex Anthony and Barnie West also touched down for the locals. Handling errors proved costly on a couple of occasions as Stags chased a fourth try and the consolation of a bonus point. Stags sit in the bottom four after only winning one of their opening six league games a run of fixtures which has seen them face four of the current top five teams in the standings. They now face a run of four successive fixtures against teams in the bottom half of the table, starting with a visit to Leighton Buzzard this Saturday.
