YOUNG rugby stars from Huntingdon Stags Colts and St Neots Colts went head-to-head for local bragging rights from U7 to U15 level. No games were more keenly contested than at U7 level, where the three matches ended one win each and a draw. Leading scorers for the Stags were Austin Brennan, Max Proietti and Reece Smith with two apiece. In the U8 matches it was Stags who came out on top, winning three from three albeit very narrowly. Games one and two were won 8-6 and 4-2 respectively and the final game saw an 8-7 victory for Stags. Will Foster-Collier, Mark Brand and Connor King touched down four tries apiece for Stags. The boot was on the other foot in the U9 contests as St Neots won both matches, triumphing 4-2 in the first and 4-0 in the second. Despite some key absentees, Stags U11 got the better of their Neots counterparts with a 35-14 win. Adam Garrood had his kicking boots on as he converted all five Stags tries, scored by Griffin Giles and Sam Durnan with two each and William Gould. Over at The Common, the visiting Stags U13 team loaned depleted St Neots a player, but were then beaten 17-10 by the vibrant home side. Glyn Lewis and Ollie Donald scored tries, with Ben Thompson converting. Stags then produced two good scores but Neots regrouped and Donald served up a running try out wide. Stags U15 triumphed at The Racecourse with an 18-7 win, as Harry Clarke got the ball rolling for Stags with an opportunist's try converted by Josh Doonan. A Mitchell Newman penalty gave Stags a comfortable 10-0 lead at the break. Another Newman penalty early in the second half increased the lead and after a converted St Neots try narrowed the advantage, a late try for Stags calmed the nerves.
