Table-topping St Ives stretched their Midlands Division Three East (South) winning streak into double-figures yesterday.

The Bulls triumphed 46-15 at Biggleswade to record a 10th consecutive league victory in a perfect start to the campaign. Phil Brown’s men have now won all 14 outings in all competitions this season.

They found themselves trailing during the first half in Bedfordshire, but reeled off six unanswered tries to register another resounding victory.

The teams exchanged penalties before St Ives fell behind to a converted try after seeing their own scrum turned over.

But a deficit was turned into an advantage by two tries in a matter of minutes before the break. Duncan Williams and Ollie Raine were the men to touch down with Paul Ashbridge adding the extras on each occasion.

And the points continued to flow as the Bulls upped the ante further after the break.

Ashbridge completed a flowing move before Mickey Drake displayed useful footballing skills by dribbling half the length of the pitch before scooping the ball up to score in the corner.

Williams then claimed his second try following a fine run from Gabriel Edwards, who was also involved in the move that led to Albiee Tayedzerwa getting in on the act.

A consolation score followed for Biggleswade, but the Bulls had the final word when a Drake break and another Edwards surge led to a simple try under the posts for Ashbridge.

The same man completed another hefty haul of points by sending over his fourth conversion of the afternoon.

Stand-in skipper Drake said: “We started slowly, but we blew Biggleswade away when we finally switched on. We’ll focus during this week on getting an 80-minute game together before we face Daventry next Saturday.”

Only the Northamptonshire side, who visit Somersham Road (2.15pm), now stand between St Ives and their target of going unbeaten to the end of the year.

They now boast a seven-point advantage at the summit with their promotion mission looking well set to be accomplished.

St Neots can also boost their title prospects on home turf this Saturday. They entertain Brackley at The Common in Midlands Division Four East (South).
