Huntingdon Stags 23, Stockwood Park 7

HUNTINGDON bounced back from last week's disappointing defeat with a comfortable win over Stockwood, despite being level at half-time.

A dominant Stags scrum and good possesion did little to dent the confidence of the away team in the first half and Stockwood, who haven't won away this season, managed at times to stretch the home defence while the Stags threatened little in reply in the early stages.

After the interval the home side took the initative.

The forwards first converted pressure into points with an unconverted try from hooker Deon Graham, before centre Neil Walsh broke the Stockwood line for an impressive individual score from 40 yards out on the left. A successful conversion attempt from fly-half Matt Durrant put the Stags firmly on the front foot.

Two penalties courtesy of Durrant's accurate boot increased the Stag's lead to what looked like an unassailable 18 points.

Comfortably and confidently ahead, the home side took their foot of the gas somewhat and leaked a converted try to Stockwood.

The final say belonged to the Stags, however, as some hard graft from Huw Williams and Simon Orange put Walsh away for his second score of the night, this time on the right wing, handing the Stags a comfortable win and a valuable two points.

SQUAD: Manchett, Graham, Giglio, McCreadie, Griggs, Davies-Binge, Baldwin, Stubbings, McCreadie, Durrant, Orange, Welsh, Cook, Crean, Williams, Strangeways, Adams, Blanchard.

St Neots III 72, Haverhill 0

ST NEOTS secured their second victory over Haverhill this season with an emphatic and balanced display, scoring 36 points in each half.

The home team got off to a flying start, Tim Russell driving over following an early penalty 10 yards from the oppostion's line.

Despite the close game earlier in the season, Haverhill had little to match the skill and energy of St Neots and began leaking tries. Neil Rook, James Fitch, Rob Baker, Tom Worboys and Mark Busby all got over the line.

In a particularly impressive MoM performance, scrum-half Dan Fox scored a hat-trick while James Fitch kicked well, converting six tries to boost the scoreline.

Haverhill played with spirt and never gave up, but in the end a well-oiled St Neots team deserved every point they scored.
