ST NEOTS Rowing Club is celebrating after one of their young rowers was again selected to represent Great Britain.

Rosie Henderson, 18, put in an excellent performance at the final selection stage in Nottingham last week, ending a process which began back in October.

Henderson represented Great Britain last year at the international Coupe de la Jeunesse event but this year she is setting her sights on the World Championships.

Following her performance at Nottingham, the young rower will compete at the major tournament in either the coxless fours or pairs depending on a further series of races to be held this week.

Henderson's selection means St Neots Rowing Club will have provided GB rowers for six consecutive years.

Coach Martyn Rooney, who has again been selected as a coach for Great Britain, said: "It really is exceptional news for her. She's got a big future ahead of her.

"Rosie's a superb racer and a superb motivator. She is fantastic at getting the best out of the others in whatever boat she's in."

Meanwhile, the rowing club were represented for the first time in several years at the Henley Royal Regatta in the Fawley Cup for junior coxless quads.

Saints were represented by Sam Howell, 14, and Toby Hetherington, 18, who rowed alongside two boys from Bedford's Star Club.

Howell was chosen to stroke the quad having already recorded victories in two junior competitions this year.

The team was exempt from qualifying having already posted impressive times this year and this proved justified as they comfortably saw off their first challengers from St Peter's School, York.

In the quarter finals the team was unlucky to be drawn against a team containing three top junior scullers and a previous competition winner.

The gulf in class proved just too much and the team were eliminated, going down by three lengths.

Coach Martyn Rooney said: "It was a very, very tough field at the regatta and to be honest, just qualifying for the competition was a fantastic achievement for the boys.
