ROWERS from near and far flocked to St Neots Rowing Club at the weekend for the annual Head of the River race. And the club's rowers used their knowledge of their home water to good effect, bringing home a total of 20 prizes on the day. Jo Fitzsimons, Natalie Bream and Polly Hetherington were the top performers, each winning all four of the events they entered. The trio also teamed up with Bethany Astell in the junior quad sculls and Rachael Crockford in the coxed fours to claim additional victories. On the junior boys' side, Sam Howell was the top rower, winning all three of his singles races and teaming up with Alex Davies, Thibault Jeangout and Huw Jarman in the quad sculls. Dominic Chapman also claimed successes in double and quad events. The club's senior rowers also had a good day with Steve Fox, Mick Lawrence, Jonathan Harvey and Darren Cantell winning the coxed four and Hayward replacing Heaney to win the coxed quads. The women's veteran senior four, including Sarah Porteus, Sarah Davies and Marguerite Pain won their event while former club captain Andy Major won the veteran B sculls and Clive Emmerson won the veteran C sculls. In the mini-head race, Josh Dexter and Ben Peacock won their first ever double sculls race and were joined by Jarman and Daniel Peppler-Jones to win the quad sculls.
