There were four wins for the St Neots Rowing Club juniors, on Sunday, at Bedford Rowing Club’s Autumn Fours and Small Boats Head.

In the WJ161x U16 women’s single sculls, there was a very competitive field of 20 rowers, including Zoe Adamson, Kate Lyster and Molly Haper for St Neots.

And it was Anderson who won the event, recording a time of 8m 44s, with Lyster just three seconds behind in second place.

Hannah Towns went in the Wj15 single sculls, posting a time of 10m 11s and finishing 16th out of 28 competitors while racing a year up from her usual age category, Louise Shorten came sixth in the U18 single scull category (9m 9s).

In the Junior 18 single scull J181x, top honours went to Josh Davies, pictured, who won the event in 7m 47s – a second ahead of Bedford Modern School’s highly-rated rower Will White, who represented Great Britain in the European Junior Championships.

Davies then teamed up with Fergus Mitchell-Dwelly for the J182x double scull, winning by 21 seconds in 7m 5s.

In the afternoon divisions, St Neots junior rowers Zoe Adamson and Kate Lyster went in the women’s U16 double scull class (WJ162x). They took on 10 crews from five other clubs, winning by 20 seconds.

St Neots Rowing Club captain Ali Young said: “Bedford was a really impressive showing for St Neots.

“It is great to see all the training that our juniors do being rewarded with such a strong set of results.

“As a club we are particularly delighted to see some of our newest junior rowers making the step up to the competitive stream and gaining some valuable experience, which bodes really well for the up-coming head season.”

l Huntingdonshire rowing action will be focused on St Ives this weekend for the town club’s head of river race.

The race starts at the St Ives Bridge, heads all the way to Hemingford Lock and back to the bridge – a total distance of 3,400m.

There will be four divisions racing, with start times of 9am, 10.15am, 11.45am and 1.15pm.

Meanwhile, St Ives Rowing Club is already planning for next year and is looking forward to hosting the town regatta on Nobles Field in June on the 150th anniversary of the club’s existence.
