United Counties League Division One

Eynesbury Rovers 3 Thrapston Town 1

ROVERS extended their winning streak to four games with a win over Thrapston.

The weather played a big part in the game, with control difficult, but Rovers made the best of it early-on.

James Dove capitalised on Eynesbury's dominance when he scored in the 16th minute to give Rovers the lead.

Goals proved elusive for the rest of the first half, but Rovers pressured Town.

The second half continued in the same vein, with Eynesbury creating the opportunities but not converting them.

Thrapston began to get into the match as the half went on, finding an equaliser through Stephen Chilton with 20 minutes to go.

Peter Collins coming on as a substitute for James Dove proved the turning-point of the match as Rovers upped their game.

Collins diverted a Ricky Taylor shot to put the home side back in front before Collins claimed his second in 15 minutes, his 20th of the season, from the penalty spot after Matt Fisk was held.

Collins came off afterwards, but Eynesbury had done enough to claim the win and push themselves up the table.

Manager Dean Shipp said of the performance: "We dominated in the first half, despite having a few injury worries, but fell asleep a bit in the second half to let Thrapston back into the game."

"Luckily we picked ourselves up, with Peter Collins coming on to deliver the goods for us. I'm happy with the win," added Shipp.

Huntingdon Town 0 AFC Kempston Rovers 1

TOWN couldn't contain a strong Rovers team, who took a 1-0 victory, their sixth on the trot.

Neither side managed to breakthrough in the first half, and the scores remained level until the 76th minute when Rovers' Gavin Batt bagged his 13th goal of the season.

Huntingdon couldn't find an answer and conceded their first ever defeat to Rovers at Jubilee Park.

Riverside Rangers 2 Houghton Wyton 0

RIVERSIDE took on Houghton Wyton in a top-of-the-table clash, winning 2-0.

With one point separating the two teams in the league, the game was tight from the opening whistle.

After two close chances Rangers found the net through Carl Foreman.

Houghton started well in the second half, twice coming close, but solid defence from Gareth Peck and Matty Renshaw kept the visitors at bay.

A foul on Foreman in the area with half-an-hour to play gifted Riverside a penalty.

Foreman slotted his second of the game and his 24th of the campaign to take the lead.

Rangers protected their lead well to take the points and move four points clear at the top of the table.

RH Lions 3 BRJ Reserves 1

LIONS stepped closer to league glory with a 3-1 win over rivals BRJ Reserves.

Both teams were determined from the start, but it was Lions that started better.

Individual skill from MoM Adrian Petty put Luke Johnson through, who beat the keeper to open the scoring.

Lions came out flying in the second half but couldn't increase their lead.

The home team pushed forward, before substitute Rob Smith fired in a goal with his first touch of the game.

David Harrison made it 3-0 shortly afterwards, finishing from a scramble in the area.

With 20 minutes to play Lions conceded a penalty, which was slotted home, but the Lions stood strong to protect their lead and take the points.

Sapley Rovers 0 Crown and Pipes 5

ROVERS took on Crown and Pipes in the league and lost 5-0.

The visitors took the initiative in the first half, going into the interval 2-0 up.

Despite the solid performance of Sapley's MoM Steve Jones, Crown increased their lead to 4-0 before they had a player sent off.

Another goal from the visitors followed to round-off a disappointing day for Sapley.

Hunts U18s County Cup

St Neots Town U18s 1 Yaxley U18s 5

ST NEOTS went out of the cup with a 5-1 defeat to Yaxley.

Saints' keeper Matt Stone was sent off after 10 minutes for hand-ball outside the area and the home side never recovered.

Despite a brave display, Saints conceded two before half time.

A courageous display of attacking intent was shown by the home side, pushing Yaxley back, before Tom Coles found the net for Saints.

Saints pushed forward and threatened to equalise, Cole and James Warboys coming close.

Yaxley hit back with a score with 15 minutes to play, adding a further two to win.

Godmanchester 4 Bluntisham 2

BLUNTY fought hard in the wind but went down 4-2.

Blunty played the better football in the first half, scoring two goals through Brian Wallace and Russ Parker.

Blunty looked comfortable, but conceded a goal on the stroke of half time.

Goddy defended well in the second half, denying top-scorer Rob Trewick and Rupert Ala Bonsra who both threatened.

Goddy scored three goals in 12 minutes to put them 4-2 ahead.

An injury to a Blunty player meant they had to play the last 15 minutes with 10 men, which proved too much as they lost the game.
