Eynesbury Rovers 3 Peterborough Northern Star 0

PEOPLE living in Eynesbury can give the area's football team a boost by turning out for the season's remaining fixtures, according to Rovers' management duo.

Pat O'Keeffe believes he and Al Lenihan have got their side playing an attractive style of football that will entertain the fans.

Following Saturday's win against fancied Peterborough Northern Star, O'Keeffe said: "We should finish comfortably in mid-table with the style of football we are playing but we need more spectators to come along and support us.

"More fans will give us the best possible atmosphere which gets the best from the lads."

Of Saturday's win, O'Keeffe added: "We played good football throughout and didn't let some heavy-handed tactics of the opposition change our game plan.

"The squad is really taking shape now and we are looking to add players with the longer-term view that we can achieve something here next season."

It was far from a friendly encounter at Hall Road and after only 18 minutes the visitors were reduced to 10 men when Chris Plummer was sent off for a dangerous challenge, although it appeared the referee had sent off the wrong man.

Chances were at a premium in the first half in a very keenly contested affair.

Danny Workman was called into action in the Eynesbury goal and he made a fine second minute save to deny Plummer.

Ronnie Fortune shot wide from a long range free-kick before Eynesbury's first chance came from a Workman clearance but Jamie Graham headed wide under pressure from the goalkeeper.

Brett Bellamy played in Dwayne Rankin but Lubniewski was quickly off his line to smother the ball. Rovers lost the services of Paul Morris who was injured in the 34th minute to be replaced with his brother Neil, while Bellamy brought a save from the visiting goalkeeper just before the break.

The game calmed down a little in the second half and Rovers, utilising their extra man, took charge of proceedings.

Bellamy and Darren Woodend both missed the goal with long-range shots before the hosts took a 59th minute lead.

Stuart Humphreys' free-kick from the left was flicked past the goalkeeper by the head of Jamie Graham. Adam Scotcher should have equalised within seconds but he hit his shot straight at Workman.

Five minutes later Brett Bellamy hit a superb 25-yard shot into the top left-hand corner of the goal to double Rovers' advantage.

Scotcher twice came close for Peterborough as his shot struck the Eynesbury post and then he saw Workman save his header.

In the 82nd minute, Bellamy and Humphreys combined well to carve open the Star defence.

Humphreys made room to slot home and make the score 3-0 completing a good afternoon's work by the home team.

* Eynesbury travel to Thrapston on Saturday and are next at home on March 8, against Burton Park Wanderers.
