Manager Martin Field has boosted Eynesbury Rovers’ bid to charge into the top half of the United Counties League Premier Division next season with an eye-catching double-signing.

Field has drafted in goalkeeper Lea Jordan from league rivals Wisbech Town and persuaded midfield man Matty Bannister to join from Godmanchester.

Jordan is no stranger to Rovers having had a brief spell with the club two years ago in their promotion season from Division One while Bannister was a regular in the first half of last season for Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division runners-up Godmanchester before being hit by an Achilles injury.

Field is confident both men can help Eynesbury make further progress after slotting safely into mid-table in their first campaign back at Step 5 level.

He said: “Myself and Lea have kept in touch since his last spell with Eynesbury. I told him to give me a call if he was ever interested in returning and he did exactly that.

“He is a top keeper and it is great to be able to bring in a player of his stature. Matty is another very good player I have known for a long time and he will also strengthen us.

“They will add quality and plenty of experience of this level and higher to our young squad, and we’re going to need that to build on last season.

“I’m not saying we are going to be world-beaters, but I do want us to continue to progress. I’d love to end next season in the top-eight.”

There is another source of delight for Field after prolific striker Lee Bassett snubbed a move to AFC Kempston Rovers, but teenage star Jordan Nicholson has departed for higher-level Histon.

Nicholson scored 26 times last season as he burst onto the non-league scene after being spotted by Field playing at Cambs Premier level.

Field added: “Lee is a big part of what we are trying to achieve. I feared we may lose him as he was offered some serious money – the sort of money I couldn’t have blamed him for taking – but I’m delighted he is staying.

“There was a lot of interest in Jordan as well and he has decided to move on.”
