WADES lifted the Winter League team title after a count-back, edging out last-day leaders Fox Match Stanjay Gold by just a point.

Gold finished a disappointing fifth on the day despite a section win from Mark Pollard and a second place from Anthony Watling, allowing Wades to close the gap at the top and take the title on count-back.

On the day, Benwick village was the place to draw a peg, with the top three anglers all fishing from the same area.

John Spalton weighed in as the winner, with Tim Dabrowa and Rob Hewison taking second and third.

Torrential rain forced the abandonment of the Raveley Drain section for the March by-pass. Across the section, river levels rose by as much as 12 inches during the match.

The individual champion was Mark One's Danny Hall with just seven points, ahead of Alex Bates with eight and Bob Fitzjohn on 10.

The top angler on the day was Keith West from St Neots who successfully caught roach on caster to weigh in 14lb 15oz. Dennis Holliday was a clear second and Roger Dickerson third.
