ST IVES sealed promotion from Senior One after a 103-run win at the Wilbrahams.

Ives won the toss and elected to bat on a wicket that captain Ricky Greiller thought would deteriorate, and a high early scoring rate saw them reach 156-3 in 32 overs with Tom Beale hitting 78 from 87 balls.

Ives kept up the scoring, playing adventurously to maintain the rate and eventually closed on 245-8 from 45 overs.

Kevin Gilder (4-26) was in form with the ball, and as the home side's required rate rose, Ives claimed regular wickets. The Wilbrahams finished on 142 all out, giving Ives the points for promotion to the Tucker league.

St Ives II lost opener Will Lygo without scoring but recovered to beat 10-man Sutton. Chris Rogers (58), Michael Hunt (30) and Steve Cant (56) scored freely to take Ives to 213-8.

Sutton's reply started brightly, but two swift wickets destabilised the innings and they crumbled to 161 all out.

St Ives III fell to a disappointing defeat at Longstanton II. The home side started slowly but poor bowling and dropped catches from Ives boosted the total, and 58 runs from the last four overs helped Longstanton to 207-6. Only two Ives batsmen reached double figures and the game finished with Ives all out for 72.

GODMANCHESTER

A SECOND successive victory in the EAPL has edged Godmanchester closer to survival.

The eight-wicket win over Bury St Edmunds was Goddy's biggest for several seasons and their third in a row at home over their Suffolk rivals.

Bury chose to bat first, and former Godmanchester player Ollie Huggins (36) top-scored as Bury reached 161 in the face of accomplished bowling from Simon Rose (4-34) and David McCallum (3-23).

In reply, the home side discovered the form that has been missing at The Parks this year. Michael Cafferkey struck an imperious 77* and Michael Lloyd was close behind with 61*.

With more than thirty overs to spare, Godmanchester got home for the points that lift them fourteen points clear of rivals Halstead.

Godmanchester II went down by nine wickets at Sawston, despite setting a healthy target of 240-8 through Matt Davies-Binge (46) and Paul Berrill (82*). Sawston had no trouble chasing the target as Liam Flynn (70) and Glen Goosen (91) smashed them to 242-1.

An impressive 82 from James Howells was not enough for Godmanchester III to beat Buckden in Hunts Two. Kevin Clement added 32, but David Bennett, Andrew Bonafont and Stephen Cox all collected two wickets to keep the score to 161-7.

Buckden scored throughout the order in reply, with Cox (46) and Sam Rowan (37) the notable contributors as they reached 162-5 in 43 overs.

ABBOTS RIPTON

A LATE Abbots Ripton batting collapse was not enough for Somersham II to take the points in Junior 4A.

Somersham II elected to bat first on a lively wicket which suited Ripton's Scott Walton (4-18) and Alex Carson (4-7). Joe Notarnicola (12) and Andrew Riley (11) put early runs on the board, but it was the bowlers who were in control, and Somersham could do no better than 89.

Ripton lost Phil Wanstall (1) early in the reply, but a second-wicket stand of 50 from Craig Marsh (30) and Will Giles (24) put them in a good position. The nerves then set in and the last four batsmen contributed just five runs before they reached their target at 90-7.

SOMERSHAM

RORY Fenton smashed 100 from 107 balls after Somersham I were asked to bat by Bottisham and Lode.

He was supported by Zunair Shahid (39) and Sam Rippington (35) as Somersham closed on 244-7. The pick of the Bottisham bowlers was John Timmons (3-53).

Bottisham never looked like getting close to their target, and Pete Coleman (3-7) and Robert Hobbs (3-8) skittled them out for just 55. The emphatic victory keeps Somersham second in Junior 1A, needing a victory away at Needingworth to gain promotion to the Senior League.

NEEDINGWORTH

NEEDINGWORTH consolidated their Division One status by beating Isleham at the Millfields ground.

After being put in, the home side had Grant Biddle (49) and Ian Armstrong (44) to thank for a respectable total of 183-9.

Isleham's opening pair of Claydon (31) and Dunbavin (19) began the reply steadily but thereafter Needingworth's bowlers dominated proceedings with accuracy and aggression. Eventually the visitors struggled to 121-7.

Needingworth captain Ian Armstrong said: "I have only praise and respect for the whole team. We have battled our way out of relegation trouble and can now look forward to fighting for promotion next year."

FENSTANTON

RELEGATION looms large for Fenstanton after they fell to an eight-wicket defeat at the hands of league leaders March Town III.

Fenstanton struggled after being asked to bat, with opener Fraser Smith (21) top-scoring. Once he and Mahmood Yakub had been removed, there was little resistance through the order and Fenstanton finished on just 73.

Smith took an excellent catch off Andy Taylor's (1-14) first over to give Fenstanton hope, but Yakub's (1-10) catch from his own bowling was the only other wicket, and March cantered home in 21 overs.

RAMSEY

A TOTAL of 143 all out was not enough for Ramsey to stay at the top of Tucker One as they went down by two wickets to Foxton.

Damian Clarke (38) and Grant de Kock (33) set a pace at the top of the order that could not be matched by their team-mates, though James Markland (27) and Pete Youds (22) contributed runs.

David Carlaw's (4-26) best efforts could not stop the visitors reaching 144-8 to win. Ramsey slip to third in the table, behind Burwell and Wisbech.

Dan Malem collected 5-17 as Ramsey III ran riot against Eaton Socon III.

Socon batted first, but lost openers Tom Hilliard (0) and John Sutton (5) cheaply. Ryan Brown (26) top-scored but Socon could only reach 115 all out as Malem cut through the lower order.

Ramsey were ruthless in reply as Elliot Smith (50*) and Mark Edwards (43) made the runs, and they reached 117-2 in less than 20 overs.

HUNTINGDON

Huntingdon II celebrated promotion with a hard-fought win over Upwood III.

Upwood set an imposing total of 243-7 in 45 overs on a good batting track, with youngster Rob Sayer making a quickfire 70. Liam Gaynor (5-72) was the star man for Huntingdon with the ball.

Huntingdon lost Jake Moore (6) early on, but Fred Khan (93) and Dan Till (44) stepped up to the mark to give the home team belief. Good scoring down the order kept victory in sight, and Stuart Staite (35*) and Waqas Mahmud (20*) took Huntingdon to 247-6 to deliver the points and promotion.

Huntingdon I had less to celebrate after a drubbing at Hunts Division One title rivals Ickwell. The home side smashed 288-2 and Huntingdon could not cope as they crumbled to 110 all out. To claim the title, Huntingdon now need a big win against Burghley Park and for Ickwell to lose at Dean.

YELLING

AARON Johnson was bowled for a duck with a no-ball, but made the most of his second chance to hit an unbeaten 89 in Yelling's six-wicket win over Ely.

Ely batted first and ran up 161, with Steve Tack (3-26) and Sam Johnson (3-43) asking most of the questions of the batsmen.

Yelling's reply stuttered at the start, dropping to 23-2, but Richie Mead (29) was soon joined by Johnson and they took Yelling to the win at 165-4.

EATON SOCON

EATON Socon threw away a chance to record consecutive Tucker wins for the first time this year at Weston Colville.

The home side batted first, and had to deal with impressive bowling from Joe Dawborn (5-46) and Rag Alevoor (4-48) as they amassed 161-9.

The points seemed to be going to Socon when they reached 81-1, with Terry Day (36) and Matt Rawling (68) scoring well. The remaining seven wickets fell for just 16 runs and a promising reply ended in disarray at 141 all out.

BLUNTISHAM

ABINGTON elected to bat first on an appealing batting wicket, and posted 185-7 from 48 overs. Bluntisham skipper Andy Hunter was the pick of the bowlers with 5-54 from his 12 overs.

In reply Bluntisham kept the scoreboard ticking over comfortably, and reached 188-5 in 45.1 overs. Former Abington player Vikrant Sharma hit 54 and received support from Paul Briggs (53) and Andy Hunter (26).
