OUNDLE'S River Nene provided the venue for Sunday's open match and with the sections in Race Meadow and Bushy Corner in use, a good day was anticipated.

The fish were closely shoaled up and with the water clear, fishing proved difficult although the sections around Ashton Footbridge were generally more consistent.

Pike were to give many anglers problems throughout the match which was eventually won by Martin Howard ahead of Peterborough's Alice Page and Hotrods' Colin Oakman.

ROUND one of the winter series was fished on Saturday and saw a convincing win for Stan Binge with 64lb caught mainly on the tip from peg 9. John Younger and Terry Allgood took the minor places.

Eastern Region Shield

ATROCIOUS weather hampered the 17 teams when they fished at Littleport with the gale force winds making fishing difficult. Fox Match Stanjay team finished ninth with Stan Binge's section win on Ten Mile Bank and Roy Whincup's fourth from Littleport, the two best results.

Ramsey AS

CATCHES were rare in the clear waters at Factory Bank on Sunday. The winner was Paul Kilby from the town end peg with 4lb 3oz. Ivan Steels was second and Andrew Kilby third.

Angling Trust Pike Qualifier

ALAN Frary from Wells and Huw Colson from Chatteris tied for first place in the Pike Qualifier at Ramsey Narrows on Sunday. Both weighed in 15lb 14oz with Frary catching three similar sized fish but Colson landing the biggest fish of the day at 13lb 12oz.

The 23 anglers present caught over 20 pike between them with former ladies champion Joan Cole from Warboys in third with two pike for 14lb 14oz.

Benwick AS

EASIER fishing was enjoyed by anglers at the village end of Chapel Farm with lots of roach to be caught. The winner was Dick Denson with 11lb 12oz with Terry Fairbrother also in double figures and Dave Jarrett's third place weight of 8lb 3oz nearly as much as his entire sections total on the Nene last week!

MATCH secretary Chris Geeson was the winner of last Sunday's Arthur Wallis Cup but catching was again difficult with the weights made up by odd good perch.

Geeson was nearly one and a half pounds clear of second placed Mick Andrews with Jon Maling third.

LAST Saturday's match was fished at Rookery Farm last Saturday and saw a win for Mark Dickerson with 32lb 14oz from Ro Fryer and Chris Young.
