St Ives Roosters 50 Thetford Titans 10

A CLASSIC game of two halves secured Roosters' place in the 2007 Rugby League Conference play-offs.

A fired-up Roosters dominated the first half and left their play-off rivals floundering, the home side bossing the visitors in centre field.

Some great tackling and effective use of their six tackles going forward meant the home side had the visitors pinned back inside their own half for the first 20 minutes.

That opening spell of pressure brought two tries for the home side, each scored by a man named Paxton; Charles and John.

The third score came straight from the restart after Titans conceded a penalty on halfway from their own kick-off.

This allowed England international Marco Rossi to break the line and the resulting 40m break saw James Yeomans touch down under the posts.

Further first half scores from Oli Moorhouse, Jamie Noble and Andrew Dean gave the home side a commanding 34-4 lead at half time.

From this point onwards it was to be a matter of pride for the visitors, who did battle well to keep the score line respectable.

The second half was a better spectacle for Thetford's increased resistance, and the half remained scoreless until 10 minutes from time.

Some bulldozing forward play from Titans' Tom Perrin caught the eye of some spectators - and some Roosters players - as Thetford battled.

The second half deadlock was eventually broken by a dive over the line from the home side's Dan McCormack after some great link-up play from Jack Blackley.

Titans hit back straight away with a try from Ian Reynolds, before Noble and John Paxton scored another pair of tries for the Roosters.

Noble's try followed good work from Dean at dummy half, while Paxton's score saw him dash 50 yards to score under the posts, embarrassing Titans' full back en-route.

This weekend Roosters travel to league leaders Bedford in what may well be a rehearsal for the Eastern Region play-off final.

The barnstorming first half performance from Roosters will have left them in bullish mood as they look to upset the divisional favourites.
