A HUSBAND and wife team celebrated success in the annual Thorney five-mile road race on Saturday.
Esther and Tony Cotton, of the Huntingdon BRJ Road Running Club, competed in warm and windy conditions over a newly-designed route. The race began at 10.35am on Station Road before runners made their way through the village, finishing in the grounds of Bedford Hall.
Esther triumphed by taking the first place trophy for ladies aged 55 and over in a time of 44 minutes, 37 seconds. Husband Tony took second place for men over 65 in a time of 36 minutes, 21 seconds. There were a total of 183 finishers, with Esther taking 152nd place and Tony 92nd.
The couple were using the race as part of their build-up for the Lake Vyrnwy half-marathon in Wales on September 10, where Esther will be running to raise funds for The Bridge Debt Advice Centre in St Ives. Anyone interested in sponsoring Esther can contact 01480 453927.
