East Midlands Winter League Open Match - River Cam

The Cam has been fishing extremely well recently but the change in the weather made catching much harder. Although most of the sections were fair and there were small fish to be caught everywhere, only a few bonus fish showed. If the conditions stay the same, next weekend's vital third round of the winter league should be a very close affair. With only three points covering the six top teams in the league, every ounce will be important.

Sunday's Open was won by Ian Reynolds with 24lb 15oz and Adam Playford just three and a half ounces behind in second place. Jason Lee was third, Anthony Watling fourth and Mick King fifth.

RESULT: 1 Ian Reynolds Browning Hotrods 24lb 15oz, 2 Adam Playford Mark One 24lb 11.5oz, 3 Jason Lee Bourne 20lb 11oz, 4 Anthony Watling VDE Stanjay MG 20lb 6oz, 5 Mick King Wades MG 19lb 8oz, 6 Gavin Butler Mark One 15lb 7oz

Stanjay Saturday Open - Godmanchester Recreation Ground

The weather and river both looked perfect as another disappointingly small field drew for pegs on Saturday. Both were to change with the gates opening and the river rushing through plus a couple of torrential showers. The match was won by St Ives' Chris Geeson who caught a tench of over five pounds and bits for 8lb 6oz. Stan was again second with 3lb 13.5oz of small fish, just beating club mate Steve Gordon's 3lb 6oz. This week's match will almost certainly be fished on the backs rather than the main river.

RESULT: 1 Chris Geeson St Ives 8lb 6oz, 2 Stan Binge VDE Stanjay MG 3lb 13.5oz, 3 Steve Gordon VDE Stanjay MG 3lb 6oz
