Northampton Casuals 16 Huntingdon Stags 20

STAGS got off to a fantastic start in what looks like being a tightly-contested league despite turning in an unconvincing display.

Stags got off to a bad start when they conceded an early converted try and were barely able to get hands on the ball for the first 15 minutes. But they drew level through an Elliot Baldwin try after good work by Matt Durrant who converted. Good work by Ben Crean earned a penalty from which Durrant gave his side the lead.

Casuals kicked two penalties of their own before half time but a Doug Bentley try for Stags sent them in 15-13 ahead at the break.

Stags debutant Quentin Minnaar scored a try in a scrappy second half and the visitors restricted Casuals to just one score in the second half to secure victory.

Stags take on Wellingborough on Saturday, kick-off at Hinchingbrooke is at 3pm.
