ANDREW Weatheritt broke his own county records in the 100m individual medley and 100m freestyle for St Ives Swimming Club at the Cambs Cup swimming gala at the weekend. Competing at Parkside Pool in Cambridge, Weatheritt clocked a personal best of 59.92 in the IM and 52.25 in the freestyle to beat his own previous county records at 18 and under level, pending confirmation from the Amateur Swimming Association. St Ives achieved a respectable third place overall in the gala, behind the larger clubs of Peterborough and Cambridge, and ahead of the Fenland Flyers and Huntingdon. There were several other winners for St Ives on the day, including an impressive victory from Sophie Sweet in the Ladies Open 100m backstroke. Both Weatheritt and Sweet will be racing at the ASA national finals in Sheffield in August. Tom Davis won in the Boys 15 and under 100m butterfly, while Peter Todd did the same over 50m in the Boys 13 and under category. In the Boys 11 and under age group, Oliver Fitt continued his good form with victory in the 50m backstroke, and Daniel Yarney won in the freestyle. Hannah Smith came first in the 50m backstroke in the Girls 11 and under group. Head coach Andy Hunter said: Im delighted with the efforts of the team, and Im proud that we have the calibre to compete with the bigger clubs in the county. Now we are looking forward to taking on Cambridge and Peterborough in the top division of the national league when it gets underway in September.
