ST IVES Cycling Club's latest Wednesday Evening Time Trial had to be run in an unconventional manner last week. The day's heavy rain meant only nine riders and no timekeeper arrived at the circuit; however, a lull in the rain allowed competition to take place. Riders were dispatched at one minute intervals and the lead rider had to race around the course in record time to be back to clock in the riders! Despite the wind and drizzle on the return leg some passable times were recorded for the 10 miles. Neil Houldley and Miranda Oberman were the fastest male and female riders, Chris Penney was the fastest veteran and Dave Nelson the best veteran on age standard. Riding the same roads for a 25-mile event on Saturday, Gary Stevens won the latest of the Northampton and District series with a time of 57 minutes 34 seconds. Neil Houldey was third with 59.13. Miranda Oberman recorded a time of 1.08.08 and Dave Nelson was almost off the radar with 1.13.51.
