St Ives talent James Quinn broke a long-standing record when capturing a regional medal last weekend.
The 14 year-old beat many older and more experienced swimmers when finishing second in the 50m breaststroke at the East Region Short Course Championships in Luton.
Quinn’s time of 29.75 bettered the junior men’s best which had belonged to Olympian Roberto Pavoni since 2007.
Proud coach Andy Hunter said: “It was an outstanding performance from James another example of his huge potential in this sport.”
Quinn agonisingly missed out on another final appearance when ninth quickest in the 100m breaststroke and he was also 15th fastest in the 200m breaststroke.
Seven other St Ives members were also in action in Luton with fellow juniors Lottie Flynn (14), Georgia Spencer (14) and Ciara Taylor (13) also impressing against much older opposition.
Cathy Brown, Fran Crocker, Amy Coleman and Tom Davies also represented the club with distinction.
