Eynesbury Rovers 1-2 Bugbrooke St Michaels

ALTHOUGH admitting his side were outdone by a “boomer” of a second goal on Saturday, Eynesbury boss Matt Plumb felt the result could have been different but for some “sloppy mistakes.”

The division’s leading marksman Nick Worley fired the Badgers in front after 41 minutes at Hall Road, shooting into the corner after latching on to a through ball.

A second visiting goal arrived a minute past the hour mark from Ady Redmond, who fired into the top right hand corner and gave Bugbrooke a firm grip on the points.

But frustrated Plumb wasn’t happy with either goal, saying: “We gave them the first goal really, which was just sloppy. as the defence were too high up the pitch and it came from our corner I think.

“The second one was a boomer but, at the end of the day, it was still a sloppy goal because we were trying to take a quick free-kick up the other end of the pitch, which left everyone unawares, and we paid for it.”

In truth the result was probably a little unfair on Rovers, who had the bulk of the first half pressure, but failed to make the breakthrough.

Adam Boothby scored a last minute Eynesbury consolation, a diving header from a Lee Bassett centre, but it was a result that saw third-place Bugbrooke complete a double over Rovers - who themselves slipped down a place in the table to sixth.

But Plumb also felt there were positives to come out of it, saying: “We kept plugging away and got ourselves back in the game.

“Losing the first goal was a kick in the teeth but, even though we didn’t come out and play very well for the first 20 minutes of the second half, we kept going and have been a lot better in recent weeks.

“I think we should have got something out of the game and they were desperate for the referee to blow, had it gone on another couple of minutes, I think we’d have scored again.

“We’ve got to be positive and move on.”

Rovers are due to host Harborough Town tonight (Tuesday) ahead an enforced week’s break from league action, due to having no fixture.
