A CRICKET coach from Houghton and Wyton has won a special award for his contribution and commitment to coaching youngsters.
Pete Waughman, 48, set up the junior section at his local club four years ago, which has since gone from strength to strength, with four teams competing in the Hunts League this season.
He was nominated by the Huntingdonshire Cricket Board (HCB) Coaches Association and admits he was “shocked” when he received a letter from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) Coaches Association a few weeks ago - saying he had won a Sky Sports Coach Award.
Waughman is one of 80 county winners nationally for 2011 and has been invited to Edgbaston on August 11 to watch the third Test between England and India – where he will receive his award.
He said: “I was shocked and surprised but I’m thrilled,” said Waughman, who also plays for Houghton & Wyton seniors in Division Two of the Hunts League.
He continued: “Our club nearly folded a few years ago, because people like myself are coming towards the end of our playing days and there were just no youngsters coming through – that was the initiative for setting up a junior section.

“She organises me very well actually,” joked dad Pete.
