East Anglian Premier League

Godmanchester (143-4) bt Clacton (141) by six wickets

WICKETKEEPER Craig Park shed his gloves and starred with the ball as Goddy stayed in third position in the EAPL.

Park took four wickets for just 31 runs as the visitors came back from Essex with maximum points.

It was the first victory at Clacton in eight years for Bevis Moynan's men, who were equally grateful to quick bowler David McCallum, who took four wickets for just eight runs.

Moynan put the hosts into bat after winning the toss, with the home openers Martin Cull (18) and Gareth James (24) making a solid start in putting on 54 for the opening wicket.

Park made the initial breakthrough, removing Cull with his first ball, while Sri Lankan star Praneeth Jayasundera captured James's wicket.

Park took a further two wickets in successive overs, though Indian test batsman Indika de Saram proved more difficult to dislodge, making 68 not out.

Park and Jayasundera ripped out the rest of the middle order, with McCallum wasting no time in mopping up the tail, securing his best ever EAPL return.

Matt Durrant and Ollie Huggins began the reply patiently, with Matthew Pateman joining Durrant after the departure of Huggins..

Promoted up the order, McCallum lasted just two balls but the arrival of Jayasundera at the crease helped Goddy cruise to victory as he blasted 44 from 39 balls.

Man of the moment Park joined Durrant (37 not out) at the crease to cement his role as Goddy's matchwinner.

Park sealed the game in style, launching a six over the boundary to leave himself on 25 not out.

Clacton skipper Martin Smith had taken eight wickets in the reverse fixture at Godmanchester earlier this year, but had to be content with just two at the weekend. Nino Bernandes claimed the other two wickets for the home side but it was Goddy's day.
