Palmer is already the fastest sprinter the club has produced in its 45-year history and he clocked up a magnificent 7.00 seconds when he finished in fifth place in the under-20s 60-metre race at the championships. Starting off with a win in his heat, Palmerss time of 7.01 seconds removed a significant 0.15 seconds from his personal best which he set last season. This time beat his Hunts AC senior and junior records. He finished second in his semi-final in his fastest time of the day, 7.00 seconds, which beat the two records he set earlier in the day. His time of 7.03 in the final was just 0.04 seconds off the bronze medal time and confirmed his ranking as 12th in the country. In the heats, 18-year-old Hugh Thorogood reduced his best time from 7.57 to 7.53 when he finished sixth. In the field, Jonathan Edwards became the first-ever Hunts AC member to putt indoors in the senior shot. His distance of 12.34 metres, although well down on his outdoor best, was a new club record - the sixth Hunts AC record of the 2012. In the Anglian Schools XC Championships in Ipswich 17-year-old Eleanor Smith qualified for next months English Schools cross country championships which will be held in Somerset next month with a fine top-10 finish in the senior girls race. Smith was first home for the Cambridgeshire team in a time of 14.42 placing her eighth out of the 57-strong field. Eleven-year-old Francesca Worrall finished 40th in the minor girls race in 12.05.
