Tyler Goodjohn insists he is ready to challenge for titles after just six rounds as a welterweight.

The St Ives fighter eased to a points success over Ivo Gogosevic of Croatia at the York Hall in London last Saturday night when making his comeback after 11 months out of the ring.

It was also ‘El Tornado’s’ debut in this division after stepping up from light-welterweight, but he does not intend taking the slow route to success.

Goodjohn, who was also having his first outing under the St Ives Boxing Academy banner, said: “I feel I’m ready to fight for titles and that’s the level I want to get back to as soon as possible.

“My previous six fights at light-welterweight had all been for titles and I need the motivation and bit of fear that a big fight brings.

“They are also what brings out the best of me. I’ll talk it over with my trainer and promoters and see if we can make something happen.”

Goodjohn won every round on the scorecards when registering the 12th success of his 16-fight career against an awakward opponent.

But the 24 year-old admits he had to overcome the nerves before stepping back through the ropes.

He added: “I’ve been in some big fights in my career, but I’ve never been as nervous as I was ahead of Saturday.

“I knew there was pressure on me to come back with a win and I did that even though it felt like a bit of an anti-climax because I didn’t knock him out.

“It’s probably a case of me being my own harshest critic because I was in there with a game fighter who had a really weird style.

“I’ve never seen anyone dancing around like he did.

“He clearly knew a lot about me as he kept trying to call me into a fight, but I held back and stuck to my boxing.

“I came out of the ring without a mark on me which is something new for me as well!”
