St Ives Town failed in their bid to claim a slice of club history yesterday.

Ricky Marheineke’s men were beaten 3-0 by Harlow Town at ProEdge Westwood Road as their hopes of reaching the third qualifying round of the FA Cup for the first time were dashed.

Two goals in the space of 10 first-half minutes left the hosts facing a mountain they never really looking like scaling. A clinching goal from a Harlow side, boasting a former Premier League player in defender Ibrahima Sonko, midway through the second half confirmed their second qualifying round exit.

It may well have been a different story had Phil Draycott done better when presented with a glorious early chance, but he could only steer a tame shot from 10 yards straight at visiting goalkeeper Nicklas Freund.

And Draycott was one of two players denied by the woodwork moments after St Ives had fallen behind to a 26th minute Junior Dadson strike for Harlow.

Draycott struck the outside of a post after captain Luke Knight’s header had hit the underside of the bar, but Harlow had no trouble in finding the net as they proved when Leon Antoine’s classy header doubled their advantage.

And any thoughts of a dramatic second-half turnaround were scuppered when Dadson waltzed his way past a couple of challengers to slot a third Harlow goal on 67 minutes.

St Ives did rally as a Jack Higgs cross-shot was hacked off the line after cannoning its way through a crowded six-yard box before Jordan Jarrold sent a long range blast over the bar.

But it was too little, too late as St Ives’ exit left St Neots Town flying the local flag in the FA Cup.

But they face a tricky Tuesday replay at Worthing after being held to a 1-1 draw at the Premier Plus Stadium yesterday.

Teenager Luis Vieira climbed off the bench to hit a leveller for the injury-ravaged Saints after they had fallen behind to a penalty in first-half stoppage time.

Vieira fired his first goal of the season on 70 minutes following a Jack Wilkinson corner. It arrived just five minutes after top-scorer Tom Meechan had seen another effort disallowed for offside.

Huntingdon saw their eight-month wait for a win continue when going down 7-2 at Sileby Rangers in the United Counties League Premier Division.

The margin of defeat was harsh on a Town side who made their Northampton hosts sweat for much of the match.

Jack Jefferson hit a first-half leveller and Luke Young cut their deficit to 3-2 midway through the second half, but they conceded four goals in the final 12 minutes.

Recent recruit Chris Francis scored for the fourth time in two games as Eynesbury suffered a third successive league defeat.

Francis needed only four minutes to fire Rovers ahead at Sleaford, but two second-half goals condemned them to a 2-1 defeat in Lincolnshire.

There was one goal and one red card as Godmanchester Rovers continued their fine Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division form.

James Hall hit the solitary strike that earned victory at Walsham-le-Willows.

Second-placed Rovers saw out the closing stages with 10 men after the dismissal of midfielder Jack Watson.
