The Olympics get underway tomorrow – and gymnast Louis Smith will be the first of the Huntingdonshire stars to grace the Games.
Smith and his Great Britain team-mates will be in action on the opening day in the individual and team qualification events.
The team finals are then on Monday with the individual apparatus finals on Sunday, August 14, when Smith will bid for a third Olympic medal on the pommel horse. He won bronze in Beijing in 2008 and captured silver four years later in London.
Former St Ives hockey star Hannah MacLeoad then enters the fray on Sunday as the Great Britain women’s side play their first fixture.
Huntingdon-born sailor Giles Scott takes to the water for the first time on Tuesday as he begins his bid for Finn class gold.
The 29 year-old, now based in Weymouth, is one of the favourites for glory in his first Olympics after winning four world titles and two European crowns in recent years.
Scott faces a 10-race schedule ahead of the decisive medal race on Tuesday, August 16.
