Grafham Water sailor Ben Saxton has reflected on an ‘awesome’ Olympic Games debut.
Saxton and partner Nicola Groves finished in ninth position in the Nacra 17 class, which also featured in the Games for the first time.

They finished ninth in the double-points medal race that brought the competition to a close yesterday, but looked back on their efforts with plenty of pride.

Saxton said: “You need to be able to nail every single day. We said that coming in to the event and we tried to do it.

“Nicola and I went out with the approach to try and attack the Games.

“We started off the event really well and then didn’t manage to close it out.

“But we’ve done ourselves proud, plus we’ve had fun. The Olympics are awesome!”

The Nacra 17 was won by 54 year-old two-time Tornado class Olympic medallist, Santiago Lange, along with Cecilia Carranza Saroli. They represented Argentina.

Jason Waterhouse and Lisa Darmanin (Australia) took silver, while Thomas Zajac and Tanja Frank (Austria) bagged bronze.
