OLIVER Fitt, St Ives Swimming Club’s 12-year-old rising star, won two gold medals, two silvers, and a bronze at the ASA East Region Swimming Championships over the weekend.

In fact, he had such a good competition that those five medals added up to one ‘big’ silver because he came second overall in his age group.

Held at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, the competition was open to swimmers from Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire who achieve qualifying times in regional competitions.

The championships were help in the University’s Olympic-sized swimming pool and Fitt represented St Ives and won gold in the 100 metre and 200 metre backstroke finals in his age group. He added two silver medals by coming second in the 200 and 400 metre individual medlies, and his bronze came in the 100 metre freestyle. These performances put together won Fitt the silver medal overall in his age group.
