ASSISTANT manager Pat O’Keeffe admitted Huntingdon Town simply weren’t at the races early on in their defeat at Bugbrooke on Saturday.

Shell-shocked Town found themselves 2-0 down and effectively out of the game early on - as was also the case at Harborough last week.

This time they were two down inside the first ten minutes, thanks to two Ross Arundell goals.

To their credit, Town did mount a fight back in the second half, with Josh Crick replying on the hour before substitute Chris Brown squared the game with a quarter of an hour to play.

Brown then missed a great chance to put the visitors ahead before Ady Redmond snatched an 85th-minute winner for Bugbrooke, with the aid of a deflection, to send them second in the table.

O’Keeffe said: “We didn’t get out of the dressing room for about 20 minutes and that cost us the game.

“We were gutted to lose it in the end like we did and, although we did well to get back into it, we weren’t very pleased with the performance.”

With three wins and three defeats from six league games, Huntingdon sit 11th in the table and next up is a home fixture against league leaders Olney Town before a trip to fourth-placed Thrapston on Tuesday night.

O’Keeffe added: “Hopefully we can pick ourselves up and go on a good run again. The ability is there - it’s just getting the frame of mind right.”
