Jake Waterworth tucked away a pair of second-half penalties to earn success for Huntingdon Town last Saturday.

Waterworth struck twice from the spot in a matter of minutes during a 2-1 victory against Bourne Town in United Counties League Division One.

The first spot-kick was awarded on the hour when Corey Kingston was pulled to the floor by a visiting defender.

A handling offence then gave Waterworth the opportunity to strike again and Huntingdon stood firm after seeing their advantage halved.

Boss Jimmy Brattan said: “It was a tough game that either team could have won.

“I felt we just edged it and had the better chances. We probably should have had a couple of goals in the first quarter of an hour in all honesty.

“It’s pleasing to get the three points against a very strong Bourne side.”

Town are slowly turning their Jubilee Park base into a fortress again. They are unbeaten in their last six outings on home turf in all competitions.

But Brattan’s ninth-placed side face a daunting test on the road this Saturday when travelling to table-topping Pinchbeck.

The Lincolnshire outfit are six points clear at the summit in their debut campaign at this level, but they were held to a goalless draw by Town on the opening night of the season back in July. Huntingdon midfielder Ben Panting and striker Corey Kingston were part of the Pinchbeck team that night, but have since moved to Town.

“Our form has been pretty good of late,” said Brattan. “We need to ensure that remains the case during what is an important month for us.

“We’ve got the trip to Pinchbeck this weekend and that is followed by three games against teams around us in the table as well.

“Pinchbeck have been the team of the season in this division to date. We need to go there with the same mentality that we have taken into the last few games.

“We competed well against them on the opening day of the season and picked up a good point. Both teams will have improved since then.”

Ninth-placed Huntingdon also face Olney (currently 12th), Potton (who sit eighth) and 11th-placed Bourne again before the end of 2017.
