Two new attacking signings are set to feature in the St Neots Town squad tomorrow.

Nabil Shariff and Lewis Irwin could both be unleashed in a first-ever Southern League Premier Division trip to Bishop’s Stortford, 3pm.

Shariff has been snapped up from National League North side Alfreton Town, while teenager Irwin has arrived on a youth loan from League One club Northmpton Town.

It was a case of patience paying off in the case of the former. Saints chief Matt Clements failed in a bid to land Shariff when he was with AFC Rushden & Diamonds earlier in the season, but suceeded in landing his man on this occasion.

“Nabil fits into what we’re about,” said Clements. “He’s creative and he has an eye for goal.

“He has a proven record of putting the ball in the back of the net throughout his career and he has the pace and ability to play in a variety of attacking positions.”

Sharif failed to find the net in his short stint at Alfreton, but struck 14 times in 18 appearances for Diamonds earlier in the campaign.

Irwin has been a big hit in youth football at Northampton and recenty had a brief spell at Step 4 side Corby Town.

“I’ve heard really good things about Lewis,” continued Clements. “I’ve spoken to a few people connected to Northampton and they all speak highly of him.

“He is a big and powerful lad, but also quick and able to run in behind.

“Lewis scores a lot of goals at youth level and Northampton feel the time is right for him to play more senior football.

“Hopefully things will work out well and we can keep hold of him as long as possible.”

Saints are certainly in need of goals after seeing loan ace Tom Meechan recalled by parent club Hungerford and losing leading scorer Dylan Williams to an ankle ligament injury which could sideline him into the new year.

Meechan struck six times while with Saints and Williams has found the net on eight occasions this season.

Their exploits helped the club climb into 10th place in the Premier Division standings - their highest position for 15 months.

Clements’ men have lost just one of their last 13 league fixtures.
