Eynesbury Rovers eased to a fifth successive victory when extending their perfect start to the United Counties League Premier Division season.

Mark Ducket’s men were smooth 3-0 winners at Peterborough Northern Star on Tuesday night.

Summer signing Steven Gentle put Rovers ahead midway through the opening half with his first goal for the club.

Gentle converted at the second attempt after his initial header hit the bar after being picked out by a Declan Rogers corner.

A quickfire double around the hour mark sealed Eynesbury’s latest success as Jordan Brown doubled the advantage before Declan Rogers blasted in a spectacular third goal against one of his former clubs.

Only a series of fine saves from Star goalkeeper Simon Dalton denied Rovers a bigger margin of victory, while Rovers’ shot-stopper Dan George enjoyed a clean sheet on his return to the club he left in the summer.

Huntingdon avoided a surprise defeat at the hands of one of their former managers on Tuesday night - but they were also denied victory by a hat-trick from an ex-player.

Town had to settle for a 3-3 draw at previously pointless bottom side in Division One on Tuesday night.

They trailed at half-time to a brace from Paul Caswell, a forward who player under current Burton chief Daren Young at Huntingdon around a decade ago.

But Town quickly levelled thanks to goals from Odie Wason and Liam Rodden in the opening five minutes of the second half.

The turnaround was completed when Antonio Dello Russo struck for the second successive match to put them ahead after 66 minutes, but Caswell struck again to complete his treble as the hosts levelled with five minutes to go.

Godmanchester Rovers were pipped by Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division title hopefuls Newmarket Town on Wednesday night.

Ollie Drake’s side slipped to a 2-1 defeat at the David Wilson Homes Ground – their fifth loss in the opening eight league games of the new boss’ reign.

They fell behind to a goal from former Rovers man Austen Diaper before Tom Spark hit a fine leveller.

But the game was settled by visiting forward Stephen Spriggs in the second half, while Rovers had Ben Yeomans sent off.
