Tom Meechan believes the good times are on the way back to St Neots Town.
The prolific striker signed off from a two-month loan stay at the Premier Plus Stadium last Saturday.
A 2-1 victory against Basingstoke Town – secured by a last-gasp penalty from Johnny Herd – earned a rise to 10th place in the Southern League Premier Division standings.
And Meechan, who has been recalled by National League South side Hungerford, was quick to issue praise for the job being done by Saints chief Matt Clements.
“The loan spell was great for both parties, which is exactly what we hoped and expected,” said Meechan. “I hadn’t really played two games in a row for the best part of two years – let alone 14!
“It was brilliant to be playing regularly again. I fitted in straight away with a good group of lads and ‘Clemmo’ is doing a great job as far as I am concerned. “Everyone knows the budget at St Neots is not what it was in the past. He is working with a lot of younger players and he has some real talent there. There are plenty of lads who could go on to play at higher levels in the future.
“I don’t see any reason why St Neots can’t push on into the top half of the table – maybe even towards the play-offs. They just need that little bit of luck at times.
“There is a really positive attitude around the place and that stems from the management team.
“My focus now is on taking the form I’ve showed at St Neots back to Hungerford and helping them climb the table.
“But if my circumstances ever change and I move back up this way, St Neots will be the first club I contact.”
