St Neots Town manager Andy Davies reckons he has the makings of a super strikeforce on his hands.

The Saints chief is thrilled by the way a partnership between major summer signing James Hall and recent recruit Sam Mulready is shaping up.

Both players found the net in a 2-2 draw at Kettering Town in the Southern League Premier Division on Tuesday night. It was a pleasing point for Saints even though they saw a two-goal interval cushion wiped out by the hosts in the second half.

Davies said: “James and Sam really seem to have hit it off and I’m very excited about their partnership.

“Any striker coming into a new club wants to get among the goals as soon as possible, and Sam has enjoyed a great start to his St Neots Town career.

“He is a constant threat with his pace and desire to get in behind defences, while it was also good to see James get back among the goals at Kettering.

“We’ve got two major attacking threats now and I feel sure they will cause teams a lot of problems.”

Hall broke the deadlock at Kettering with a curling strike in the 21st minute after being picked out by a long Tom Spark pass. It was his fifth goal of the season and first since August.

And Mulready continued his red-hot start to life in a Saints shirt with a fourth strike in as many appearances for the club when doubling the lead a minute before the break.

The former Stamford man smashed in from close range after Taylor Parr had nodded a Declan Rogers free-kick delivery down into his path.

But Saints’ stranglehold on the game was weakened by the loss of skipper Tom Ward to injury early in the second half. He had taken a knock in the opening period and tried to battle on before eventually giving way to Tom Wood.

Kettering halved their arrears when one of two players they had introduced at half-time, Aaron O’Connor, burst clear and slotted past Saints keeper Alex Archer, and they levelled with 15 minutes to go as Wilson Carvalho struck after Jonny Hall failed to cut out a Liam Canavan through-ball.

Davies added: “We started very brightly and were rewarded for a good first-half performance with a couple of goals.

“We were under a lot of pressure in the second half and we rode our luck at times, but we definitely deserved to come away with what I class as a good point.”

Saints dropped a place to 22nd in the Premier Division standings, but remain one point from safety.

They entertain second-placed Leamington at the Premier Plus Stadium this Saturday.
