St Neots Town took a major step towards securing Southern League Premier Division survival by sinking the newly-crowned champions today.

Leading scorer Jevani Brown bagged both Saints goals in a 2-1 triumph at table-toppers Chippenham.

The club’s fifth and finest away triumph of the campaign moved them four points clear of the drop-zone with only two games to play.

Manager Matt Clements said: “No-one gave us a chance of getting a result, which I fully understand, but the players showed what they are about.

“All the credit for this result goes to them. We were brave, we were disciplined and we showed how the belief and trust has grown.

“We know we’re not safe yet, though. We’ve got to go again on Easter Monday and get another result.”

Brown fired St Neots ahead after a quarter-of-an-hour and then doubled the lead early in the second period when converting a penalty that he had earned himself.

Chippenham halved their arrears with 20 minutes to go, but Saints held firm to emerge with three priceless points.

They can now clinch safety with a victory at home to Dunstable on Easter Monday.

A long trip to Wales proved fruitless for St Ives Town today.

Ricky Marheineke’s side were beaten 2-0 at play-off bound Merthyr in the Southern League Premier Division.

The opening goal arrived from the penalty spot eight minutes into the second half with Merthyr doubling their advantage 16 minutes later.

Red-hot Godmanchester Rovers roared to a fourth successive Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division victory today.

Ben Yeomans struck twice in a 5-3 victory at Walsham-le-Willows with Reece King and Tom Spark also on target. An own goal completed Rovers’ haul.

Eynesbury are assured of a second successive top-six finish in the United Counties League Premier Division after thumping Sileby Rangers today.

Rovers came from behind to register a 5-1 win against their Northampton-based opponents at Hall Road.

Leading scorer Craig Smith levelled just before the half-hour mark, but the sides were still deadlocked when Sileby were reduced to 10 men in the 62nd minute.

An own goal then edged Eynesbury ahead with 20 minutes remaining and further strikes followed from Jordan Brown, Jack Warwick and Tom Coles, who was netting for the 30th time this season.
