Huntingdon Town manager Jimmy Brattan admitted a draw was arguably the right result – despite seeing a golden chance to beat the United Counties League Division One leaders go begging.
Town had to settle for a share of the spoils in a 1-1 deadlock at table-topping Pinchbeck last Saturday when missing a second-half penalty.
Jamie Waterworth skied a spot-kick, but it didn’t detract from a pleasing performance from Brattan’s men as they halted their hosts’ nine-match winning streak to extend their own unbeaten league run to seven games.
“We fell behind after giving away a silly free kick, but our response was immediate and impressive,” said Brattan.
“We should have gone ahead again from the penalty, but rumour has it the Pinchbeck groundstaff are still searching for the ball!
“I do believe we would have gone on to win the game if scoring then, but a draw was a fair result in my eyes.
“I’m very pleased with our recent run although we could easily have turned three of our recent draws into wins.

“We should have been out of sight by half-time against Bugbrooke, we had a goal disallowed at Blackstones and then missed the penalty against Pinchbeck.
“But to be a bit disappointed while picking up points is certainly not the worst position to be in!”
Corey Kingston hit Huntingdon’s equaliser at Pinchbeck when striking against the club he represented at the start of the season.
It arrived only a few minutes after the hosts hit the front through a Nick Bishop header which was inadvertently deflected past goalkeeper Quincy Shorunmu by Town defender Liam Rodden.
Both teams created more chances but Town’s penalty – earned by Chris Jones – was undoubtedly the best of them.
Waterworth is club’s recognised spot-kick taker even though his brother, Jake, converted two penalties as Town beat Bourne the previous weekend when he was sidelined with a groin problem.
The miss ensured a second stalemate of the season between Huntingdon and Pinchbeck. They drew 0-0 in the reverse fixture on the opening night of the campaign back in July.
Town sit ninth in the Division One standings at the season’s halfway stage. They go to Olney, who are one position and one point below them, this Saturday.
