A last-gasp leveller lifted Eynesbury back into second place in the United Counties League Premier Division last Saturday – but boss Mark Ducket admitted it was not deserved.

Tom Coles clipped in his 21st goal of the campaign in second-half stoppage time to earn Rovers a 4-4 draw at Northampton side Sileby Rangers.

An away point against another team challenging for a top-six finish certainly isn’t a bad result, but Ducket was less than enamoured with the performance that earned it.

He admitted: “We didn’t deserve to win the game . . . in fact we probably deserved to lose it.

“I felt Sileby wanted it more than us from start to finish and had it not been for an outstanding performance from my goalkeeper, we would have been in big trouble.

“But the plus is that we dug in and got ourselves level. It definitely goes down as a point gained and it gets us back into second place after being out of that position for a few days.”

Number one Jamie Greygoose made plenty of key contributions despite being beaten four times on a day when the home side’s opener arrived after just eight minutes.

Goals arrived at regular intervals as Allan Owen equalised only for Sileby to strike again.

Jordan Brown then provided a second leveller for Eynesbury, who hit the front for the first time when leading scorer Craig Smith struck seven minutes before the break after seizing on a weak backpass.

But their lead was wiped out three minutes into the second half before Sileby edged back into the ascendancy with a quarter-of-an-hour to go.

That’s the way it stayed until Coles’ vital late effort after a Brandon Taverner shot was blocked.

Eynesbury host out-of-form Holbeach at Hall Road this Saturday, 3pm.

Full-back Dan Buddle made his debut at Sileby after joining from St Neots, whereas Eynesbury defender Jack Uttridge is understood to still be a target for the Saints.

Young striker Rhys Thorpe has become the latest Eynesbury player to join Biggleswade FC – a Spartan South Midlands League club in their first season.

Left-back Matt Clifford and forward Ben Sawyer, who are both at higher-level Bedford Town, are targets for Ducket.
