Huntingdon Town boss Jimmy Brattan toasted a well-executed plan following a fourth victory in their last five United Counties League Division One games.
Christian Le headed a late winner after being picked out by a Josh Watson delivery as Town triumphed 2-1 at Melton Town last Saturday.
Huntingdon hit the front on the half-hour when Richard Baines was left with the simple task of finishing a Herbie Panting cross.
They were pegged back on the stroke of half-time and that is the way it stayed until Le struck with three minutes to go.
Brattan said: “Both goalkeepers made good saves and both teams missed good chances in the first half.
“Melton then had more of the possession and created the better opportunities in the second half.
“We set out to frustrate them and to try to hit them on the counter-attack when we could. It paid off in the end with the winner.

“Hats off to my three boys at the back – Liam Rodden, Odie Wason and Josh – who were superb and they stood tall when we had to weather a storm at times.
“We’re enjoying a decent run and it was pleasing to bounce back from a disappointing result at Lutterworth Town the previous Saturday.”
Now Huntingdon have to avoid slipping on a potential banana-skin this Saturday when they entertain rock-bottom S & L Corby at Jubilee Park, 3pm.
The basement side are yet to pick up a point this season, but Town were made to sweat before winning 1-0 in the reverse fixture last month thanks to a stoppage time goal.
“We made hard work of winning at their place,” admitted Brattan. “S & L will try to fight and scrap for their first points.
“They’ve only been losing by the odd goal lately which suggests they are improving and they certainly can’t be taken lightly.”
Before then, Town go to higher-level St Ives in a Hunts Senior Cup quarter-final tomorrow night (Tuesday).
Defenders James Seymour and Callum Walter are available after serving suspensions.
Midfielder Chris Down made a first start against Melton since collapsing in an August game at home to Buckingham.
Town have appointed Nather Al-Khatib as assistant boss to Brattan. He initially joined the club as a coach earlier in the season. Al-Khatib also coaches in the Cambridge United youth set-up.
