It has been a February to forget for Huntingdon Town in United Counties League Division One.

Jimmy Brattan’s side have lost every league game in the past month - an unwanted run completed by a 2-1 reverse at the hands of Buckingham Town at Jubilee Park last Saturday.

It was the third time they have tasted defeat by that scoreline on home turf in recent weeks - and the same factors have been apparent in each loss according to the Town boss.

“We’re in a bit of a slump,” admitted Brattan. “We need to forget February - apart from a great win at a higher-level team in the Hinchingbrooke Cup.

“Things haven’t happened for us in the league. The combination of a lack of concentration at one end and not quite taking enough chances at the other end is costing us at the minute.

“But I have every confidence we can turn it around going into March.”

Huntingdon received a double-blow when falling behind midway through the first half against Buckingham.

Defender James Seymour was cautioned for a conceding a penalty and Town then lost goalkeeper Quincy Shorunmu to injury immediately after it was scored. Shorunmu has hurt by a challenge from the Buckingham attacker a split-second after the initial infringement which led to the spot-kick.

Seymour was then dismissed after receiving a second booking for his part in an incident as the teams left the pitch at half-time. A Buckingham player also received a straight red card at that time.

Striker Corey Kingston, who was presented with the UCL goalscorer of the month award for January before kick-off, levelled on the hour.

He was only a whisker away from a second goal moments later, but the decisive strike arrived at the other end with five minutes to go.

Only a spectacular save denied Town substitute Ben Page a late equaliser and first February point.

Brattan added: “This game was always going to have a bit of bite about it due to the way certain Buckingham players behaved after the first game was abandoned back in August after Chris Down collapsed.

“The emotion increased due to some of the things being said by one Buckingham lad in particular who only seemed interested in winding people up and causing trouble.

“He eventually got the red card, but it was a blow for us to go down to 10 men ourselves.”

Huntingdon, who have slipped into the bottom half of the standings, go to struggling Bugbrooke this Saturday and have received a boost with midfielder Ben Keating fit enough to resume training this week after suffering a knee ligament injury last summer.

Defender Callum Walter has signed for Cambs League club Chatteris Town on a dual registration deal.
