Boss Bob Warby watched his Huntingdon jump off the bottom of the United Counties League Premier Division table last Saturday and match their points tally gained in the whole of last season - but he still wants plenty more from his men.

Town made the leap up to second-bottom courtesy of their first league success since the opening game of the season.

It arrived against Wellingborough Town at Jubilee Park and was secured by a solitary strike from Jamie Waterworth, who volleyed in an Addie Staffieri cross just before the hour, and moved them onto eight points.

“It looks a long time on paper – and it has certainly felt it at times – but this result has definitely been coming,” insisted Warby.

“We went through 90 minutes of doing the right thing, thinking correctly under pressure and working within the framework that has been laid out.

“The boys deserve credit for their performance and commitment, but this is only the first step on a long journey. I believe in myself as a manager, and I certainly believe in my players.

“No-one ever said this was going to be easy, but we need to get our house in order first before we focus on anyone or anything else.

“We have taken a step forward by matching last season’s points tally, but picking up eight out of a possible 42 is still not good. We need to do more and we will continue working as hard as we possibly can.

“We’ve already let a few more slip points through our grasp and it’s our duty to ensure we take control of our own destiny.”

Huntingdon are now a point above new basement boys Kirby Muxloe, a Leicestershire side thumped 12-2 by table-toppers Peterborough Sports last Saturday.

And Town sit a point behind third-bottom Boston Town, who are their opponents when they travel to Lincolnshire tomorrow for a crucial clash.

They will facing a side under new management as Gary Frost takes charge of Boston for the first time.

That trip is followed by another on Tuesday when Newport Pagnell will be the destination.
