NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL: Huntingdon chief blasts the tactics of his team’s latest conquerors

Huntingdon boss Bob Warby delivered a scathing blast to the latest team to beat his United Counties League Premier Division bottom side.
Town went down 3-1 to Holbeach at Jubilee Park last night, but Warby was far from impressed with the tactics employed by the Lincolnshire outfit.
“If I had the type of budget that Holbeach do, and just asked my team to lump it and dump, I would sack myself,” said Warby.
“It is a criminal waste of talent. They have stockpiled some really good footballers there, but there was only one team playing football last night – and it wasn’t the one with the huge budget!
“I’ve seen a lot of football at this level and the easy way to success is hoofing the ball long, but I would rather take up tiddlywinks than be forced to watch that every week.”
Huntingdon fell behind to a Jordan Thomas penalty midway through the first half. An Ollie Pinner header from a corner doubled the visitors’ lead just after the half-hour mark.
Jamie Waterworth halved the Huntingdon deficit nine minutes into the second period, but a Matt Warfield free-kick ended any hopes of a fightback with 10 minutes to go.

Warby added: “The penalty decision was soft with a clear offside in the build-up going unseen.
“The second goal came from a corner where my defender had his shirt held by the Holbeach player. It was seen all around the ground except by the man six-feet away.
“We found ourselves 2-0 down without being opened up and we asked our lads in the second half to stick to our beliefs and try to entertain us.
“The fact we were applauded off the pitch at the end of the game suggests we were successful in our aim. Our goal was beautiful with some lovely, creative football – by far and away the best one scored on the night.
“The final Holbeach goal came from a free-kick that we conceded on the edge of our box, but these things happen when chasing a game.
“Arguably we beat ourselves last night as we coped with the Holbeach gameplan, but were undone by poor decision making.”
Huntingdon remain three points adrift at the foot of the standings. They host second-bottom Harrowby this Saturday.
