Ollie Drake hailed his Godmanchester Rovers aces following another awesome away performance.

Drake’s men breezed to a 5-0 triumph at FC Clacton last Saturday to climb back into the Thurlow Nunn League Premier Division top six.

An early own goal gave Rovers the edge before leading scorer Jack Chandler doubled the advantage midway through the first half.

Chandler struck again five minutes after the break with a stunning effort from a tight angle to seal victory with his 22nd goal of a fine campaign. Incredibly Chandler has now scored double the amount of goals he did last term when playing two levels lower for Cambs League champions Hardwick.

Ben Yeomans and Matty Allan then got in on the act in the closing stages to complete another emphatic away-day for Drake’s men.

“We were absolutely excellent from start to finish,” said the delighted Rovers boss. “To perform as well as we did after such a long trip is really pleasing.

“We pride ourselves on playing football, but we’re now finding ways to get results when the conditions are tough.

“We have a great group of lads. They work hard for the club, the management and each other, and we’re in a good place right now.”

That success at Clacton arrived hot on the heels of another impressive 5-0 victory last Wednesday when Rovers eased into the quarter-finals of the Hinchingbrooke Cup.

Chandler helped himself to a hat-trick in a first-round win at lower-level Wisbech St Mary. Allan also found the net there while Joe Furness celebrated his birthday by tucking away a penalty.

Rovers have now won their last three games in all competitions, scoring 12 times in the process and not conceding.

They are due to chase more knockout success on Tuesday night with a League Challenge Cup quarter-final at Thetford Town.

And they’re on the road again this Saturday when returning to Premier Division action with a trip to struggling Fakenham. Rovers then entertain the Norfolk outfit the following weekend.
