St Neots Town manager Matt Clements saw the best and worst of his side yesterday.

They were stung by two late goals when having to settle for a 2-2 draw at Redditch in the Southern League Premier Division.

It was a game – and performance – of two halves from Saints as they struck twice in the opening 20 minutes to put themselves in command only to see victory snatched away after conceding twice in the closing eight minutes to see victory snatched away.

“There’s no doubt it goes down as two points dropped,” admitted Clements. “We were absolutely fantastic in the first half, but naïve and careless in the second.

“A point on the road is always useful, but I want the boys to realise how good they can be.”

Saints quickly hit the front as Stefan Broccoli opened his account just three minutes into his first starting appearance after being released by loan striker Lewis Irwin.

Wideman Broccoli boasts an impressive CV which features stints at Arsenal and Newcastle United as a youngster. His quick feet and impressive array of skills look set to be fine assets for Saints.

Their advantage was doubled a quarter of an hour later when Tom Wood flicked in a header from a Johnny Herd corner and they remained in control until the closing stages.

Ashley Sammons halved the Redditch arrears with eight minutes to go before Spencer Weir-Daley nodded a dramatic 90th minute leveller from a corner.

And the hosts were only a whisker away from snatching victory in stoppage time when a Dior Angus shot was deflected wide.

While Saints chief Clements was left to rue a couple of dropped points, rival boss Darren Byfield was dismissed as he left the pitch following the game!

St Neots climbed one place to eighth in the Premier Division standings. They have lost just one of their last 11 league games.
