Eynesbury chairman Matt Plumb has spoken of his frustration ahead of the club’s next FA Vase test.

Rovers travel to Essex Senior League side FC Romania in the first round proper of the national competition on Sunday (1pm).

The match has been pushed back a day due to the home side’s landlords, Cheshunt, playing on Saturday.

“I have to admit we’re not too happy with FC Romania,” said Plumb. “The arrangements for the Vase tie should have been sorted by October 2, but we didn’t hear from them until last Friday.

“We assumed the game would be played on the Saturday, but we now have to try to get a side out on a Sunday.

“About half-a-dozen of the boys said they couldn’t make it when being told of the change of date. Hopefully most of them are now available, but it looks like we’ll be without a couple.

“It feels like we’ve been penalised for our opponents’ wrongdoing, but there is nothing we can do about it. We’ll just go there and try to get the result.”

Eynesbury then turn their attention to the defence of their Hunts Senior Cup crown on Tuesday. They entertain Godmanchester Rovers in a quarter-final tie at Hall Road.

“It was a great achievement to win the county cup and we’d love to have another serious go at it this season,” added Plumb.

“But Godmanchester have been on a great run lately in their league and we know we’re in for a hard game.”

And Plumb insists that promotion remains the target for Eynesbury in the United Counties League Premier Division despite a 1-0 home defeat at the hands of unbeaten leaders Leicester Nirvana last Saturday.

Rovers goalkeeper Tim Trebes was beaten in the 88th minute of his debut after arriving from St Ives Town, where he played at Step 3 level last season.

Rovers now trail their conquerors by 12 points in the standings, but Plumb continued: “I don’t think either side deserved to win the game in all honesty and it was a sickener to concede so late.

“The aim for this season is to challenge for promotion and that hasn’t changed. We’ve just had a tricky spell, but we’ve definitely got the quality in our squad to be up there.”
