Eynesbury boss Mark Ducket has praised his players for upsetting two sets of title contenders during a busy run of games.

Rovers were 1-0 winners against Holbeach at Hall Road last Saturday - an outcome which boosted their bid for a third successive top-six finish, but almost certainly ended their opponents’ hopes of winning the United Counties League Premier Division title.

Danny Draper headed the only goal in the second minute of stoppage time at the end of the first half. It was Rovers’ fourth game in a week – a run which also included a goalless Thursday draw against leaders Yaxley – and they’ve gained eight points in that time.

“I’m over the moon with what we have produced during such a busy spell,” said Ducket, whose side are now unbeaten in seven games in all competitions.

“Playing four games in a week is not easy at any level of football, but to come through it unbeaten and having taken points off two title-chasing teams is very pleasing.

“It was a good draw against Yaxley and we followed it up with a terrific win against Holbeach.

“You can’t always play pretty football in this league. Yaxley and Holbeach both looked to go long against us and we had to deal with that.

“The only disappointment is that we didn’t win a bit more convincingly against Holbeach as we had great chances in the second half, but we’re now on course to finish in the top six again after a difficult season.”

Eynesbury’s hectic spell continues tonight (Tuesday) when hosting Northampton side ON Chenecks at Hall Road.

They travel to Desborough on Saturday before switching their attention to the defence of their Hunts Senior Cup.

Ducket’s men make the short journey to neighbours St Neots Town for the final on Wednesday, May 2. It’s a repeat of the showpiece clash they won 1-0 last season.
