Eynesbury Rovers chief Mark Ducket has called for a big performance on a big occasion this Saturday – and he hopes a big crowd is there to witness it.

Rovers entertain higher-level Peterborough Sports at Hall Road, 3pm, in what Ducket reckons is the pick of the ties in the FA Cup preliminary round.

It will see United Counties League Premier Division title hopefuls Eynesbury, who have won all three fixtures so far this season, take on reigning champions Sports, who enjoyed a victorious start to life in Division One South of the Evo-Stik Northern League last weekend.

And Ducket admits his men are determined to cause a shock in what he has billed as a ‘mouth-watering match’.

Ducket said: “I don’t believe there is a better FA Cup tie anywhere in the country at the weekend than this one.

“It is probably the toughest draw we could have got at this stage against a team who will still be on a high from their title win last season.

“They’ve also added some more good players to an already magnificent side whereas we have suffered a couple of injury blows to key players.

“We will be up against it before a ball has even been kicked, but we’re looking forward to the challenge of trying to cause an upset.

“It’s a mouth-watering match between two sides who will be at it from the first whistle – and I’m really hopeful that people in the area turn out in force.”

Eynesbury have enjoyed a fine start to the campaign with an extra preliminary round triumph against Norfolk side Thetford Town being followed by back-to-back league successes against Cogenhoe and St Andrews.

But the latter victory last Saturday came at a cost with Rovers losing two players to serious injuries.

Midfielder Jack Warwick suffered knee ligament damage and defender Jack Uttridge sustained a broken foot. Both men now face at least a month out.

And Ducket described last season’s leading scorer, Craig Smith, as only being ‘touch and go’ to be fit to face Sports.

Eynesbury banked £1,500 when beating Thetford 3-2 in the extra preliminary round and they could boost the coffers by another £1,925 if successful against Sports.
