Manager Ricky Marheineke has pulled off a double striker swoop in a bid to fire St Ives Town up the Southern League Premier Division.
Marheineke sealed moves for proven goalscorer Dubi Ogbonna, who arrives from Soham Town Rangers, while pushing through a work experience loan move for hot Peterborough United prospect Morgan Penfold.
Ogbonna is no stranger to Saints supporters after he had a previous spell with the club during the 2013/14 campaign - and Marheineke insists there is no risk involved in signing a 24 year-old who was axed by local rivals St Neots Town earlier this season after failing to show up for a game.
The Saints chief is also excited by the prospect of working with Posh teenager Penfold, who boasts a fine scoring record in youth football and was handed his senior debut by the League One club early this season.
Marheineke said: “I’m aware of what happened at St Neots earlier in the season, but that’s not an issue to me. People should focus on what Dubi brings to the team with his footballing ability.
“His goalscoring record speaks for itself. He is proven at Step 3 level and there is no other player in this area who you can say that about.
“I’m a manager who puts my full faith in any player I sign and make them aware of how I expect them to conduct themselves. Dubi needs to come in and make an impact by scoring goals, and I’m confident he can do that.
“We’re also looking forward to bringing young Morgan in. It will be a learning experience for him as he adapts his game to be successful in non-league football.
“But we have a great environment at St Ives and a great bunch of lads - many of whom have been in that situation themselves earlier in their careers.”
Marheineke’s striking options are set to be further increased with Danny Kelly available on a regular basis from the start of November. He has only appeared in a handful of midweek matches to date.
And popular midfielder Jared Cunniff is also set to return after a spell in Australia. He touches back down on these shores tomorrow (Thursday) and international clearance has already been received by Saints officials.
Marheineke may send him out to a Step 5 side to get minutes under his belt before considering him for selection.
