St Neots Town manager Matt Clements has stressed the need to turn performances into points.

Saints face a crucial month in their Southern League Premier Division survival battle after slipping back into the relegation zone.

Clements’ men face a run of six fixtures during February – four of which are against other teams in the bottom half of the standings.

The exceptions are two clashes against play-off challengers Chesham, with the first of those being away, in Buckinghamshire, this Saturday, 3pm.

Clements said: “The fact we’ve dropped back into the bottom four is not really a concern at this stage. If we can win a couple of games in quick succession, we will more than likely climb back out of the relegation zone, just as Cambridge City have done in recent days.

“I’m still in a positive frame of mind and have taken heart from what we’ve showed in recent games. We’re now at the stage where we have brought our performances up to a level where we can compete with all sides at this level.

“We’ve got the basics of hard work and commitment in place, we’ve improved defensively and we’ve showed we can put the ball in the net.

“Now we need to bring all of those things together on a regular basis to start picking up the points we need.

“January was a very tough month where we had to try to get and pinch any results that we could, but February is the month where we have to start putting points on the board.”

Clements has boosted his squad with three new arrivals.

Cambridge United youngsters Tom Knowles and Fernando Bell-Toxtle have both joined on work experience loans. KNowles is an attacking player whereas Bell-Toxtle operates in central midfield.

Striker James Tricks has also signed for Saints. He has played at Step 6 level for Daventry Town and Step 5 side Newmarket this season, but he has been at Kettering Town in the past.

Clements could be without leading scorer Declan Rogers for several games. The 13-goal ace is due to undergo surgery on Monday after suffering fractured fingers during a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Hitchin last Saturday.

St Neots are on the road again on Tuesday when they travel to King’s Lynn.
